Wicked Chinatown Rogaine

Join this event at Chinatown - a private farm near the Ashley Forest. This hidden paradise will be a rare treat for teams to explore. It is open land with native forest and scrubs. The terrain comprises valleys with moderately-steep sides, and some gentler front country. There are some spectacular views from higher ground.

These fun rogaines are suitable for gurus to newbies: 6-hour, 4-hour, 2-hour and 1-hour options are available.

Anybody that has a moderate level of fitness can participate. A high level of navigation ability is not required.

Kids and families are welcome to come and have a fun time.

Dates: Sunday 15th March 2020.
Start Time: From 10.30 to 11am for the 6-hour event, from 12.30 to 1pm for the 2- or 4-hour events, and from noon to 4pm for the 1-hour and Kids Fun event.
Start Location: Chinatown (Okuku Pass Road, Ashley Forest).
Cost: From $30 to $65 per adult. From $20 to $50 for students. $20 for a family pass in the Kids Fun event (one parent and up to 4 children from the same family). Kids under 14 are free when accompanied by one paying adult.

Rogaining involves teams of two to five members visiting as many checkpoints as possible in the time allowed. Checkpoints are scored differently depending on level of difficulty in reaching them; therefore teams choose a strategy (such as visiting many low score checkpoints) and route selection becomes a vital component.

Teams travel entirely on foot, navigating by map and compass between checkpoints in terrain that varies from open farmland to hilly forest. Teams travel at their own pace and anyone from children to grandparents can experience the personal satisfaction that comes from cross-country navigation at their own level of competition and comfort. Team members stay within earshot of each other.

The best thing about rogaining is the social aspect. Everyone generally finishes at the same time - it is just the amount of ground that has been covered by teams that differs. Rogaining can be held in city environments or in farmland and bush, and you get to visit parts of the country you never knew existed.
