International Day of Older Persons (1st October) is a United Nations initiative celebrated around the world. It’s a time for everyone to acknowledge and say thank you for the huge contribution older people make to New Zealand.
Local exercise professionals will celebrate this special day with FREE fitness classes for older adults interested in improving their strength and balance.
“Sport Canterbury has partnered with approved strength and balance exercise providers, to offer free exercise classes across the city and wider region.” says Sport Canterbury’s Strength and Balance Project Leader Rebecca Logan.
Nine FREE exercise classes will be offered in various locations in Greater Christchurch and North Canterbury on Monday 1st October - including circuits, pilates, tai chi and yoga. Each class will be followed by a social morning or afternoon tea. An additional free pilates class will be offered on Thursday 4th October in Christchurch.
You will need to register for these FREE classes (by email or phone), as spaces are limited. These classes are suitable for beginners, but participants need to be medically fit to exercise. Check with your GP if you are uncertain.
Approved classes are designed for older adults and have a strong focus on improving strength and balance to promote the vision: Live Stronger for Longer.
