Starting out running

Running (sounds better than jogging!) groups are a great way to learn a few tips and to run with others of a similar level.

There are lots of groups already around for you to join (some are listed below), or just get a group of friends and get started!

"Questions From Beginner Runners" was written to answer the most common questions asked by new runners, and by people returning after a layoff of at least a few years.

How Far Should I Run? explains how to safely increase your running distance without getting injured.

Map My Run allows you to check up on exactly how long that run (or walk or cycle) was that you just completed! Just choose the start address, plot the route using your mouse, and you'll find out the distance.

Get Up To Five is a 8-week programme to support people to be able to run 5km.  It includes weekly group sessions and a tool to track your progress.

ParkRun is a free weekly 5km fun run on Saturday mornings at locations throughout New Zealand, including Christchurch.

This group supports recovery from addiction and mental distress through running and walking in Ōtautahi Christchurch.

Join this national virtual run or walk network that aims to have as many people across the country out running and walking for their health. They run a series of specific 5km events during the year (often related to public holidays or special dates) as well as challenges over a set period of time or distance.

Team CP Running Groups

Improve your running by developing your running technique, strength and fitness with a bunch of other enthusiastic people. Your CP Coach will ensure that everyone is challenged to their own level and no one is left behind. These groups usually run on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
