The Kaikōura Adventure Race is a traditional adventure race combining multiple disciplines including trekking, mountain biking and navigation into a complete journey. Team members race together and the courses are designed to challenge the strongest teams while still being achievable for all levels of fitness and abilities.
Four events are available for adult, school and family teams of 2 to 4 members:
- 3 hours;
- 6 hours;
- 12 hours; and
- 48 hours (adult teams only).
The 48 hour event includes packrafting as well as the other disciplines.
Date: Friday 11th to Sunday 13th April 2025.
Start Time: 10am on Friday for the 48 hour race (briefing at 7.30am on Friday). 7.30am on Saturday for the 12-hour race, 9am for the 6-hour race and 11.30am for the 3-hour race. Briefings for the 3, 6 and 12 hour events will be held on Friday evening.
Location: Secret location in the Kaikōura District.
Cost:
- Adult teams: From $156 per person (18 years +) for the 3-hour event;
- School teams: From $79 per child (10 years +) for the 3-hour event; and
- Family teams: $196 per adult and $125 per child (17 years and under) for the 6-hour event. $156 per adult and $79 per child for the 3-hour event.

The event is a fundraiser for adventure racing groups and Kaikōura High School.
